Ares is a little doll baby! He may not be the manliest stud muffin, but he is a precious little boy. He is very quiet and calm natured. He prefers to cuddle most of the day and gives the sweetest, gentle, most loving kisses. His affection isn’t out of excitement, it’s a very intentional, deeply emotional affection. He is a true gem of a boy!

He is a little less confident, a little more timid at times than our other boys. We bought him as an adult from another breeder in Missouri, so I don’t know how much of that is genetics and how much is environment. It will be great to see him socialize at our upcoming Chimera Family Reunion, February 2026!

His puppies have been absolutely amazing. Some of the puppies are the rowdy, confident, getting into everything, and demanding attention, but the majority of his puppies are much calmer natured with gentle dispositions. Slightly less sensory and attention seeking than some otherlitters, but well balanced and their needs are more easily met. In other words, easy babies!! We kept 1 daughter of Ares, Basilisk (Basil), and I hope to keep many more over the years! Basil is a doll! We are really enjoying her and the othe families are really enjoying their Ares puppies.

Ares loves to be cuddled, coddled, and carried. He actually does a great job keeping up trotting along on our hikes, but I’m sure if offered a stroller or arms to carry, he would be just as happy. He’s just as easy as his babies! He is one of those Shih Tzu that act like they know they have royal blood and expect to be treated as such. I lovingly call him a little princess.

He loves touch and likes to cuddle on the couch or sleep in bed touching me. If I pet him or love on him, he leans intk me like a cat and rolls against my hand. He isn’t super outgoing and eager to meet strangers, but he LOVES his family.

Ares is a very good for grooming. He’s an easy guy to wash, dry, brush, shave, trim his face, nails, eveththing is fine. He seems to just enjoy the time together and being touched.
