Beowulf is a sweet little guy! While is sized a little bit under the AKC Breed Standard, he feels like a solid little guy! His heart is as big as a lion, he has so much love to give.

Beowulf is very social with people & dogs. He thinks strangers are just friends he hasn’t gotten to meet yet, and wants to fix that mistake immediately haha. He loves touch and rolls around into your hand as you pet him, with great enthusiasm!

He is a confident, fun guy, always ready for any new adventure. He doesn’t get nervous oranxious. He trusts us completely & looks forward to anything we plan. He loves going for car rides, shopping at pet stores (meeting new friends!), walks in the neighborhood (looking for new friends!), hiking in the forest, kayaking, boating, running around the beach, and even swimming with his tiny little legs!

His only fault is his undershot bite – his underbite that the breed is known for, sticks out just a little too far! We really want the adults to close their mouth with no teeth showing, which he can do, but he is so silly he often flashes some part of his beautiful pearly whites! Most times I would consider this a reason to not breed, as we want to IMPROVE with each generation. After spending over a year with Beowulf, contemplating, researching, and watching him mature, we have made the decision to selectively include him in our breeding program. We will pair him with girls with the best (tight) underbite & hope for the best! While we do highlight this one minor flaw, he has endless positive traits that will he immeasurably valuable in the lives of his puppies & their families. He has honestly been one of the easiest dogs we have raised. With training, bonding, socialization, outtings. He is quite puppy-like and can get very happy, excited, and selective hearing “hold on mom, I’m playing with my friends!” but never anxious, reactive, overbearing, dominant. He is sensitive enough to be respectful of other dog’s boundries and body language, as well as “mad mom”. He is eager to please – his humans and his puppy friends! He really gets along well with every age, gender, and demeanor of dog he has been around! Beowulf is everyone’s favorite!!

If you are out off by a toothy grin, I completely understand. You may prefer one of Roo’s litters. For the families that aren’t too particular, we will do the best we can to preserve this once in a lifetime magic that Beowulf is, while minimizing the toothy grin flaw.

In breeding, there is always a balancing act. I debated for a long time and got myself into crying fits multiple times thinking the hard choice was the best, to protect our reputation against people that would tear us down for breeding a dog with an undershot bite. Then, I’d see Beowulf, I would feel his heart, and I knew there was so much more than his teeth peeking under his nose. We have to look at the whole picture, preserve what is important, and be honest about flaws that no one can see – like temperament. There are some nasty tempered dogs out there with beautiful faces. I don’t want to fall into that avalanche. I need to do what I feel is best for the families that will be raising my puppies. The families devoted to the dogs I bring into the world. That’s who I need to base this decision on. I think people are going to really enjoy Beowulf puppies!! I can’t wait to share them!
